How To Build A Brand Kit In Canva

Canva can be a great tool for creating quick and repeatable designs for your business or organization. One feature we love is the “Brand Kit.” It allows you to easily access all your brand assets for effortless visual consistency across various applications. Keep reading to learn how to set yours up!

Note: You’ll need a Canva Pro subscription for this feature. There’s a free trial available for new subscribers here!

What Is Canva?

Canva's Round LogoCanva is a user-friendly online design tool that allows individuals and businesses to create a wide variety of visual content, including social media graphics, presentations, posters, videos, flyers, and more. It offers a drag-and-drop interface, making it accessible even for those without professional design experience.

Why Brand Consistency Matters

When your audience sees the same colors, fonts, and messaging from your brand over time, they recognize and remember you. This builds trust, making them more likely to choose you over competitors! A consistent brand also creates a professional image and boosts your perceived value, since people tend to associate consistency with quality. At the end of the day, when people instantly recognize you, they don’t have to think twice about electing to work with you. A clear, familiar brand makes their decision easier.

How to Create Your Canva Brand Kit

To get started, go to Canva’s homepage, and on the leftmost side click “Brand.” Then go to “Brand Kit” and “Add New.”

Name your Brand Kit! Give it your company’s name, or something else to keep you organized. This feature is perfect for graphic designers or agency marketers who work with multiple brands.

Upload your logos and wordmarks. It’s best to add transparent .png or .svg files. This makes using the images on any color background a breeze once you reach the designing phase.

brand colorsAdd your brand colors to the palette. You can copy and paste hex codes (recommended) or use the eyedropper tool. There is no limit to the number you can add!

Choose or upload your fonts. Pick your preferences for your “Title,” “Subtitle,” “Heading,” and more. It’s best to stick to your chosen brand fonts and not add too many. We typically use three or fewer. If you can’t find your font in the list, you can upload a .ttf file. This is often provided by your branding HQ. You might also be able to download it from a trusted website.

Include guidelines for your brand voice. The great thing about these Brand Kits is that they’re shareable with other members of your Canva Pro team! So upload anything you’ll all need to refer to and use, like more notes, photos, graphics, and icons.

Why Create a Canva Brand Kit?

Now that you’ve created your Canva Brand Kit, make a Brand Template to put it to use. You can create an image for almost any purpose, including email banners, social media, and website material.  With your logo, colors, and fonts saved in one place, every design stays on-brand without the extra work. It makes creating social media posts so easy – just plug in your content, and your feed stays visually consistent. Plus, you can reuse templates over and over again, keeping your branding strong across every post, story, and ad. Need to resize a graphic for a flyer, presentation, or email header? No problem! Canva lets you adapt designs for different formats while maintaining a cohesive look.

The Bottom Line

We always recommend working with a professional graphic designer when discovering your brand identity, working on more complex designs, or embarking on a custom project. However, Canva is a user-friendly and worthwhile tool for everyday marketing needs! Using multiple design programs strategically and hiring professionals when necessary can maximize visual impact while keeping costs in check.
